Self-Confidence is something that many people have and some just don’t have. It really depends on how you are going to react to the situation. The best way to know how to be more self confident is to simply start looking at the situation and think to yourself that you have what it takes to overcome whatever obstacle that may come your way. This applies to anything that you can think of, whether it’s a fear problem or challenge.
For example, if you were asked to answer an essay question on American Idol, you would probably not be very confident. In fact most people would probably laugh at you and give you a look as if you have just crawled out from under a rock. But by taking a deep breath and thinking about how your response would affect the judges, you will gain some idea of how to approach it. Your confidence will rise because you now understand that you are in control and that there is nothing that they can do about it.
This same technique can be applied to anything. It’s all about thinking rationally about things. People tend to get caught up in their emotions and base their decisions on them rather than on logic and facts. If you learn to control your emotions, you can gain a better understanding of the situation around you.
This is the same principle that I apply when I’m trying to accomplish something. I look at all of my options before making a decision. I analyze every detail of each one to determine if I can make a success of it. I then put all of those pieces together to form my plan. I realize that although my plan might not succeed all the time, I’ve learned enough to know that I can try again next time.
Being more self assured, doesn’t mean that you have to take on impossible tasks. You should focus on what you can do to increase your confidence. For instance, I often tell myself that I can write a ten page paper, even though it seems like I’m writing a ten page report. I keep replaying the scenes in my mind over again to convince myself that I can do it. Even though it may seem impossible to actually write a ten-page report, I find that I am constantly thinking about ways that I can increase my confidence and write a more solid report.
A big part of self-improvement is learning how to stop comparing yourself to others. People see all kinds of trends in the news and see people that are succeeding and see them doing exactly what they want to achieve. They don’t compare themselves to these people because they feel intimidated by them.
This is why I advise aspiring editors to always treat themselves like a person. Stop seeing themselves as a superior being and start believing in their abilities and ability to overcome whatever obstacles they face. When you are able to think of yourself as a competent individual, you will have increased self-confidence because you are more confident of your abilities. I’ve also found that people who treat themselves like a superior to get more done in less time because they believe that they deserve only the best for themselves.
Finally, stop focusing on what other people think about you. Focus instead on what you want to happen. Your biggest enemy is not going to be other people; it’s going to be yourself. So focus on improving yourself, and you will find that you will become more self confident faster than you ever thought possible.
